چکیده
A back-projection technique allows seismologists to analyse rupture properties once seismic signals from a dense array of networks are available. The observed waveforms then traced back in space and time the source region an earthquake under investigation. In this study, method utilised image recorded high-frequency P -seismic filtered at 0.25-1.0 Hz by Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) processing estimate extent spread propagation M w 7.5 Palu event on 28 September 2018, generating severe tsunami. This study aims duration, its (the distance over which propagates) corresponding speed, directivity (where most energy propagates). results revealed that front propagates slightly offset southward about 2.9 km/s ~140 km away epicentre for 49 s before slowing down much smaller amplitudes after reaching south end Bay. finding is consistent with NNW-SSE orientation active Palu-Koro Fault lying along bay, suggesting strong ground motion associated fault activities. has therefore substantial implications enhanced tsunami early warnings, helping government local authority build community resilience warning people risk future possible hazards.

متن کاملThe 2011 Tohoku earthquake and devastating tsunami.
At 14:46 on March 11, 2011, the magnitude-9.0 earthquake attacked Sendai and neighboring cities distributed along the northeast coast of Honshu Island, Japan. Its epicenter is located 130 km east of Sendai (Fig. 1). Unfortunate ly, the strong earthquake generated devastating tsunamis that destroyed many towns and villages near the seashore in Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures. The natura...

The main objective of this study is estimating acceleration time history of 16 September 1978 Tabas earthquake incorporating the seismological/geological source-path and site model parameters by using finite-fault simulation approach. The method generalizes the stochastic ground-motion simulation technique, developed for point sources, to the case of finite faults. It subdivides the fault plane...

Results of simultaneous LF subionospheric monitoring over two different propagation paths prior to the very strong Tokachi earthquake (near the east coast of Hokkaido Island, 25 September 2003) of magnitude 8.3 are presented firstly. Nighttime amplitude fluctuations of the Japanese Time Standard Transmitter (JG2AS, 40 kHz) signal received at Moshiri (Japan, 142 E, 44 N) and at PetropavlovskKamc...
متن کاملThe earthquake and tsunami of 1865 November 17: evidence for far-field tsunami hazard from Tonga
S U M M A R Y Historical reports of an earthquake in Tonga in 1865 November identify it as the only event from that subduction zone which generated a far-field tsunami observable without instruments. Run-up heights reached 2 m in Rarotonga and 80 cm in the Marquesas Islands. Hydrodynamic simulations require a moment of 4 × 1028 dyn cm, a value significantly larger than previous estimates of the...
